The Baritone sax player in the 90's alternative act, Morphine, is selling his Buescher Bass Saxophone on Craigslist Boston. It comes with a road case. He's asking $12,000...yikes. I ran across it the other day and thought, this is not the right type of thing to sell on Craigslist...makes me think he doesn't know about SOTW.

He can ask anything he wants, but I think he is dreaming in technicolor. Vintages bass saxes (with the exception of the Conns keyed to high F, and the Selmer VIs and BAs) don't come close to that price. Even the Conns and Selmers come in around the $10,000, not $12,000 price.

I suspect he wouldn't be able to offload it for the price he's asking on SOTW. We're a pretty savvy bunch.

He must need more morphine and can't afford it anymore.

Last three Conn bass saxes I saw for sale went for around $7000 or less. I know because I have one. 8-)

Just to clarify. I don't believe Dana (the sax player in question) is an addict. I know it was just a humored reponse. But just wanted to put that out there. Next, I'm sure he is asking a price that he was told would be accurate given his relative "star power" and what not. I'm sure he probably doesn't really need to part with it or want to, just probably feels if he can get that much for it than why the heck not. Otherwise he's certainly test the Ebay waters, right?

Is that a picture of Dana playing Baritone on Theo Wanne's site? (or is it Theo?)

You seem to have some inside information.

I could imagine what this person said...

"Gee whizzzzzz.... I am a star and play this sax in a band. But because of this I will sell my bass saxophone for a hefty profit. In fact, more than it ever could be worth because... I am a star. I don't need the cash... just want to make more because I am a star."

WHATEVER! ;)

Or he was led to believe that. It's not that I have inside info as much as I happen to know the guy, somewhat, and am aware that it's quite possible someone told him he should be able to get that for it.

I'd think its more like "gee, so and so thinks I can get this much for it, if I really can than I'll sell it, but not for anything less."

If he wanted REAL star powere he'd have me blow a few gigs on it and THEN the thing would carry. ;)
