Anyone tried the Italian-made Rampone&Cazzani "Saxello" semi-curved soprano? James Carter uses one.

Subtone: I had one for a few years - bought it new from WW&BW. Great horn - well made, gorgeous sound, and good intonation. The high end was a bit weak.

My problem with it was that it was difficult to put down on stage when playing my alto or clarinet. I had a baritone sax stand that I used to hang the thing upside down but it required a large footprint on stage plus the neck stuck out precariously, risking an upset. In crowded venues it was impossible.

I finally traded it away for a straight Buescher TT - and never looked back. If racking it is no problem for you, you could do a lot worse than the Rampone tipped-bell soprano, in my opinion. DAVE
