Hello all,

I have bought an alto from Borgani, in my opinion it is a student horn when I played it first but it looked brand new, so I bought the horn. With the right mouthpiece it sounds ok.

Because I was curious I asked Borgani for some info and I recieved:

Dear Mr. Arie,
thanking for your kind message, we regret to inform you that we are
not able to find out the information you request.
Unfortunately it's not possible to go back to the model from the serial
number, because there's never been a sequence on numbers and moreover because of the extremely long history of our production.
Lots of files have been lost all over these years. .
If you send us a photo of the horn we can say you the period but not the exact year.
Really sorry about that
Our best regards.

That clears something up about serial numbers....

So I sent them some pics and the same day:

Dear Mr. Arie, your horn was made in 70th years and it is a study model.
For anything you may be need we send dates of our sole distributor in the Netherlands

Now I know this horn was around 30 years old... it must have been in the case for that time... it looks absolutely not used... I was surprised.

Just wanted to share this with you.

Arie

thanks for the information on uour posting. I too have been given an older borgani Alto of unknown vintage. I e-mailed borgani with the serial No but got no reply. Did you send your request by post and if so any specific person/ address? I am a beginner with nothing to compare with, how does your Borgani sound? best wishes

I had the same experience as saxioni with a soprano about three years ago. Much the same reply, so I sent an e-mail with pics and Christina came back with the advice that it was a 1960s student model. Her English is not so hot, but the message was clear enough and she was very helpful.

ian g, sending pics by e-mail may do the trick for you.

Hi Ian,

Like bmsj said. sending a pic to Borgani does it. I had answer the same day, I thnik she walks into the factory and ask an old manufacturer: "What's this???" Something like that.. but they are friendly people.

For the sound: what can I say... it is student horn and it sounds like one. Sound is flat en a little sharp above top b. The biggest problem is to play it in tune, every single note is a little out of tune, but different on every note. Up en down... so I will not keep this horn, but make one student very happy with it, because it is in really good shape, need no rehaul after 30 years.

And to be honest: it is a steady sax, it looks and feels like it will last forever.
