Hybrid saxophones

I know that there are saxes like c melody and c soprano that are hybrids of alto and tenor and soprano and alto, but are there any other hybrid saxes?

I don't think "hybrid" is the appropriate word to describe saxophones other than what we now consider to be standard saxophones. In their day, the C-saxophones were just as viable as the others - and many still consider them to be useful.

And, they are all saxophones regardless of their pitch . . . consider the mezzo-soprano, the Conn-O-Sax and others of that nature. Odd? Yes - today. Saxophones? Yes - all of them. DAVE

I know they're all saxes, but I just use hybrid as a way to describe the sax in relationship to the two closest size saxes to it.

I'll have to say I disagree with the word "hybrid". It's not like you get the neck and bell of an alto and throw it on a tenor body to get a c-mel. Each size is made purposefully with one thing in mind.

But yes, there is a Bass sax in C on display somewhere - an original Sax. There are tumors of the F baritone, but that could have been a cheaply made example that was just way out of tune. Visit Saxpics' website for more info on strange-sized saxes and other odities.
