Pierret 5S ? Please urgent information .

Hello everybody !
First excuse my poor english ( I'm living in France ) . I hope someone understand me !
Has anyone some information about Pierret 5S N° 11632 , tryed by Poinboeuf (?) . I know nothing about saxo but I wish to acquire one ! I have the oppotunity to buy a Pierret 5S for about 200 USD . It's only to do some music notes with it and for décoration !!! Is it playable ? What do you think of the price ? Many thanks

Have you read all the topics in this Pierret forum? That should help with your decision on buying the saxophone.

I have a Pierret stencil sax that I really like--the tone is rich and full. The sax has wire key guards and the pearls are not concave, but the old sax sounds quite good when I'm up to playing.

I paid about $250 for my sax on EBay and had to add $100 to put the horn in playing condition. It is likely I will not get my money back should I sell this sax, but I don't care. What is important to me is how the horn plays.

Other people on this forum might suggest you save up more money and buy a more modern saxophone. That is up to you--an instrument that is pretty with modern keywork is fast, with pads that don't leak or stick. I have a modern Taiwanese soprano sax that is reliable and good. Buying a new saxophone, you are unlikely to have to pay a lot more money to get the sax in playing condition.

It is also a good idea to inspect and play any sax before buying it. If you can, take the sax to your instrument repairman for his recommendation before you make the purchase.

I have been playing saxophone for three years, so take my comments with a grain of salt. I have also owned six saxophones since beginning playing (now I have 4, soon to be 3).
