Thanks to everyone who responded to my posts on the old forum. Just thought I'd let you know that I talked with the folks at USA Horn again today and decided to buy the used YSS-475!! They answered all of my questions and said they'll ship it out tomorrow.

Thanks, BobD, for letting me know they had this sax.

I can't wait until it gets here! :D

Martha,

Cool. I bet you'll be happy with it. Given the cost contrants you couldn't really do any better. That horn has great keywork, decent intonation, and good tone.

What mouthpiece are you planning on trying? I used the Lakey that was with the horn but it was too large an opening. My friend was with me and let me borrow his Lakey that was a much smaller opening. The intonation improved a lot. I was amazed at how much more different a soprano plays with a different mouthpiece than does the tenor.

Good Luck and let us know when you get it.

I hope you enjoy it and grow with your new horn!

I'm not sure what mouthpiece I'll try with it. I'll be calling a local instructor today (to set up a few lessons, now that I've ordered the sax) and will ask what he recommends.

Does anyone here have a recommendation? (If it matters, I also play alto sax and clarinet.)

Hmm. Maybe I should start another thread (though I'm not sure if I should do it here, in the Soprano forum, or over in the Mouthpieces forum).

Good decision on the YSS-475! Possible mouthpieces:

Selmer super session

I liked the super session with my SOP. But some music houses will let you try different makes and models. I did that for my alto mouthpiece last month and I was surprised how much I preferred a selmer metal piece over an otto link.

Ya gotta try them out first, if you can.
