Can anyone tell me anything about this one? It has an inscription design on the horn and on the front it reads "Edware made for Boosey & Hawkes". The serial number is five digits, begins with 68XXX. The person I bought it from says it is a Selmer but I don't see the Selmer name anywhere. Is this sax worth putting money into to fix it up? It is for my teenage son who's been playing off and on on a student model for three years, and now wants something different
Thanks for your help
It's not a Selmer, it's a Kohlert. The model it's stenciled from is called "Bixley".

It's a student horn of varying quality.
Oh. To specifically answer your question, I could do the knee-jerk, "No" but the real answer is, "If your son likes the horn and it's not too expensive to fix, go for it." The value of this horn in PERFECT condition is fairly low -- around $350 US -- so that gives you an idea of how much to spend on repairs.
IMHO, I'd see if I couldn't trade it in for an intermediate model Yamaha.

Thank you! That answers my questions. It looks like I got ripped off a bit. Well, you live and learn. Thanks again

I just finished an overhaul of an Edgware tenor (Kohlert stencil) and mine plays and feels fabulous. Not pretty to look at, but a fine player in all respects. I don't care what it's worth on the market, fortunately, because I built this one for myself (I'm a big fan of Kohlert woodwind instruments from the 1930s-late 1960s).
