I just wanted you all to count me in (finally) as a new owner of an Antigua 586BC (Thanks to Dave!), I have wanted to uprade for a long time from my Chinese Junk (not the boat), but other saxes became my focus because they were more practical. The soprano, though, was the one I always just plain enjoyed the most. Well, I finally did it, and find myself in love with the soprano all over again. I just can't seem to put it down. It has such a sweet sound compared to my other one, and so far, no one has put their hands over their ears. I am using the Morgan Protone for now. I like it OK, but think I will be looking for something different before too long.

For those of you using the Protone, what reeds are you using?

I use the Vandoren V16 #3's on the Morgan Protone and they work superb for me.

Bradshawm: Congrats.

I spent last Sunday afternoon playing with a fellow SOTW poster who bought a 586BC from Kessler. His horn is a beaut. He started on the Morgan Protone with the 586BC but after we first got together, I talked him into trying my Selmer S-80 F. He is using it now and it has made a tremendous improvement in his power, tone, and control.

I tried the Protone and for beginners, it seemed okay (and I suppose more experienced players use it well - no accounting for mouthpiece tastes). But once you get into soprano, you may want to explore other pieces. My friend did, and it worked for him. DAVE
