Hello,
I have the opportunity to buy a Parisian Ambassador alto with this serial number: 045 656. I read some pretty positive reactions on this saxes, so I thought it might be a good choice. What kinda quality can I expect and in what kinda qualityclass should I place this horns? Or in general: anyhting you know about this horn would be interesting. I read that beaugnier made them, but also Pierret.. so who knows the truth?

I was so lucky to get some info from Olds:
Hello Arie,
Thank you for your email. I apologize for the late response.
Unfortunately, I do not have a lot of information about the early saxes that were produced by the Olds Company. Since the sax is engraved with "Ambassador" it is a student model that was built for Olds I believe in the 1960s and 1970s. The Parisian series were built in France. I think this might be engraved on your instrument.
F. E. Olds went through an ownership change in 1980 and at that time the factory was shut down. Most of the historical records were not transfered in the sale making it very difficult to research old instrument such as yours.
I wish I had better news for you.
You might want to check out www.saxquest.com. This is a website that contains information on all sorts of saxes. Mark Overton runs the site and tells me that he constantly gets updates and new information.
Good luck and thanks for the interest.
Sincerely,
David Benedetto
Very kind of them. I have the sax now and it needs an overhaul, pads are as good as dead, but even then the sound is great and tuning is nearly perfect. I wonder how this baby will sound when it is overhauled.
And it has a little strange octave mechanism, like I have seen on some old conn's.
