If they don't have it they can probably get it. (if one exists)

i played a big band/full jazz band arrangement in school. It was ... well i did not like it, but I do not like the song that much. It was pretty good. go to www.jwpepper.com and see if you can find it there.

It has an open improv solo section (with pre written solos if you want) and a really cool trombone/trumpet/tenor sax soli, pretty fast stuff.

I remember the tribute CD that was done for Jaco that had The Chicken. It was a big band arrangement of it. It was really sweet. Hope you can find it.

I play in a big band that has an arrangement for The Chicken. Next rehearsal I'll look up the arranger and the publisher. Oh, and by the way, Alfred "Pee Wee" Elis from the James Brown band is the person who actually wrote the tune.

We play it in our big band.

Written by Alfred James Ellis. Arranged by Kris Berg. Published by
Golo Publishing Company. Administered by Unichappell Music inc.

Lots of good funk!

the one on the jwpepper site is great, we play it every so often, it's got a crazy break for the tenors tmpts and tbones, not impossible, but something you shouldn't try to read unless you got a really good band

Yeah that's the one! I like that crazy break a lot. We get it out most of the time but I agree it's a tough one! Also lots of opportunities for some solo fun. We do them on guitar, tenor, baritone for now but it depends on the situation.

The problem with this number is that several big bands in the area play it so I think the local public is getting a little tired of hearing it.

That jwpepper web site looks good. I'll keep it in mind when we're looking for some new music.
