I need to decide between New England Conservatory and Eastman for a masters in Jazz Performance. Any informed advice? THe teachers at NEC are Steve Lacy, Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone and Allan Chase. The teachers at Eastman are Walt Weiskopf and Ray Ricker. Both seem like such good places to be. I'm having trouble deciding. Thanks

If you're looking at a performance degree, you may want to take into account the local performance opportunities. Boston has a very underrated jazz scene and should offer many more possibilities than a smaller town like Rochester.
Yes, both schools have nice programs, but the on-the-job portion of your training is just as important as the lessons and classwork, no matter what style you play. I'd recommend NEC, but you can't really go wrong either way. Best of luck.

Besides, Boston is a lot more fun than RNY. Take it from a Berklee alum...
