I have no experience with muscial instruments what so ever. In spite of this I have recently decided to take saxophone lessons. While I have always loved listening to jazz and the saxophone in particular I am not familiar with the various versions of the instruments.
Can anyone tell me which type of sax (and other horns) I am listening to in the following recordings:

Dave Koz - Let it snow/winter wonderland
Grover Washington - Jamming, soulful strut
Dave Brubeck - Take 5
US3 - Cantaloop (flip Fantasia)
Spyro Gyra - Morning Dance

I think the sound I like is the Tenor Sax.. but I am not really sure.

Thanks.....

The Brubeck Take Five version you are probably thinking of is with Paul Desmond playing alto sax. Jay Beckenstein played alto on Spyro Gyra's Morning Dance.

Thanks....
I glad I asked. I was guessing that those were Tenor saxophones.
Maybe I'll consider studying Alto sax. I need to find a few recordings with Tenor saxophones to compare the sound I guess.

I think the easiest tenor sound for the nonplayer to imagine is the theme from the pink panther.

I actually found a MP3 pf the pink Panther theme on the internet today. At least you didn't suggest something I wasn't familiar with :-)
I think I have decided to give the "Alto" a go.
