Hi,
just purchased a martin typewriter tenor and fitted on my old dukoff 7*
and what a horn. I kept hearing that these were a bit clumbsy but i found none of that except for the lh palm keys. I kept clipping top f when i went for D , but after 10 mins i got accustomed to it and no probs after that.
Anybody out there got one of these and find any other probs? and what mp do you use on it?
My first martin and it wont be my last!!!!!

It's near impossible to roll from one LH pinky key to another. That and the LH palm keys take getting used to as you say. Other than that, after a few days you get used to it. My 11-year old son couldn't play my Alto Master due to his small hands but can handle his late 1920's Handcraft ok.

I've only owned an alto Master and it responded and played the same as my son's Handcraft. I really love these early Martin models but I ended up selling the Master to pay for studio equipment. I regret letting it go.

I only have problems with the RH pinkies. Then again, I'm left-handed...It's really satisfying playing a horn people consider "unplayable."

I find the L/H pinky cluster great. If you need a quick bell note its so easy to hit and no confusion as they are all spaced well and very easy to slide across to the other pearls, same applied to R/H pinky. Its just a matter of practice and once mastered you have a sax that is very unbeatable in tone, power and shear quality which seems to be lost in many of the modern horns of today !!! Nothing seems to beat the early HANDMADE craftmanship of the vintage American horns!!
