I recently purchased a two tone GM I tenor and had the chance to do a side by side with a student's silver Yamaha 82Z. The key work on the Yamaha was great, as I own an alto, but after having spent the last month on the GM I it is actually a nice feel to it and very fast action. Now, here is the kicker: tone. I was very pleasently suprised at how much better the GM I sounds! It is much louder, fuller and fills the room much more. Even the owner of the yamaha agreed! The even cooler thing is that she spent 4 times as much as me! :)

Yep, that sounds like a GM to me
Once you get used to the keywork (specially the left pinky part) and the balance of the sax (strap ring isn't placed right) these are mighty horns.

Moving the strap ring is vital to balancing the SML and on tenor i moved the left hand thumb rest down the body and lengthened the lever. My Rev D has so much more tone than anything else i have tried.

How far south did you move the strap ring on the GM tenor?

It has settled 2 inches south and about 1/8 to the left, took a few moves to get it perfect, now it balances perfectly.

Thanks.

I have a MINT Reynolds Contempora Gold Metal I with rolled tone holes. I still have not decided whether it is my cup of tea. If I decide to keep it, I will move the strap ring. But this horn is so mint that I hate to do anything to it unless I plan on keeping the horn for a long time. Everything is completely original, including the pads, which show almost no sign of wear.
