The artist series is known for the "silver" colour on the horn... but i got my artist with only the neck that is silver... what is the difference... and would i have been better off paying $200 more for the all silver one?

I have the silver plated body; the lacquered body with silver neck came out later, probably for people who prefered a more sedate look.
I've never noticed a sound difference between them - just play yours and enjoy it!
Have you gotten any tuning issues with it? I know i had a lot of sticky pads.. but i'll get that fixed.... it's the tuning is that the sax or the mouthpiece... or is it just me!! feels so hard to tune!

Sticky pads seem to be an epidemic with new horns. Now that I've been playing on my Artist alto for about 4 or 5 years, I'm thinking about having the whole thing repadded with MusicMedic Roo Pads.
I've really had no trouble playing my horn in tune with a variety of mouthpieces. What kind of setup are you using?
I'm using a blue JJ #8 mouthpiece with Vandoren ZZ reeds 2.1/2 but i trim it down a little to make it softer... I think it's because the facing of my mouthpiece is too big!

Hence the intonation problems you're having. Playing too big a facing often makes people bite and go sharp.
JJ's #8 is a .090" tip - I only play on a .080" tip (Vandoren A35 or A7)
I use the same reeds on that smaller tip. No biting, no sharp upper register.
oh the facing changed for jody, the one i have is the old once, which is (0.83) i believe .... so it's around the same... i usually don't bite but my muscles are used to playing clarinet.... maybe that is causing me problems

Hi there,
Got the same 2 weeks ago. I actually preferred its softer tones than the silver one. Its a great saxophone !!

Ya it's pretty nice. But it's time for me to upgrade. I'm actually looking into the Reference54 and the 82Z at the moment!
