Has anyone gotten a copy of Paul Hanson's jazz bassoon book yet?
I'm very interested in getting it, but I'd like to find out more about it first.
http://www.jazzbassoon.com/ is Paul's site. I did e-mail him, but he referred me to Forrest's music to buy it.

Well, no one else seemed to know what was in it, so I went ahead and ordered a copy from Forrests.
It's a very good technical workout that makes you tackle some tough fingering in scale and chord patterns. The material is different from the things you find in standard bassoon books like Oubradous or Weissenborn.
There's one section that's particularly tricky - it's 1-b2-3-5 cells in major. (C-Db-E-G, for example.)
I was hoping for maybe some gear tips as well - things like how to deal with amplification, etc., but there isn't anything in the book on that.
Overall a very well put together workout that's good for any bassoonist, whether or not they're going to play jazz.

I caught Paul Hanson and Michael Rabinowitz together last week in Austin, TX. Fantastic performance, they both can blow!
