Been offered a Yani 800 series tenor for $800. Very good condition.

I currently play a a941 Conn 10M but wondered what if the Yani would be comparable for such a low price.

how would this compare, say, to a new Yani 901

Thanks

Hi. For what it's worth, the 800 series was the top of what Yanagisawa was making in the late 80's. The first tenor in my band was playing an 880 Yanigisawa at the time.

$800 for a 880 is fantastic if it works. I play a soprano 880 and its a great horn.

But is an 800 series necessarily an 880? I don't think so . . . I think there was a model 800 as well. I know there was in sopranos (late 70's); pretty sure the line didn't begin and end there.

Pretty sure its an 800 not an 880 - sounds like the 880 followed the 800.

the serial number puts the sax at 1984.

Thanks for all the advice

1984 does put the tenor into the years of 880 production, which began in 1980. I'm not sure if the 800 and the 880 were ever manufactured at the same time. An obvious difference between the two is the 880 had two connecting arms on several of the lower cups (don't remember which cups.) The 800 were all single arms.

you would be foolish to pass on a deal like this.this is a much better horn than a conn 10m from a mechanical point of view

My 880 was made in 1990 (appears to be one of the last ones before the 990 series..) and to the right of the serial number it has 880 written (carved??) by it.... perhaps the sax in question also has some ID of the model on it somewhere to determine what it is.... (may not, but just a though :) )
