Do they have to read EVERY thread?
Yes. We'll be asking questions later.
LOL! Funny comments and characteristic of many of our Forum members; one reason i like it here.
Without going into a rant, in the past two weeks or so I have been reading a number of postings where the answers are already readily and easily found here. For those of us who like to help folks, it just wastes our time opening and reading such threads, and IMO, shows a laziness from the posters to Forum members and their time. To me it has to do with consideration and manners.

This has been going on since the first time I came here. Like 5-6 years now. Could part of it be that people want some interaction and want to feel part of a community? It's one thing to read the past posts and get info on a certain thing but I like the interaction of dealing with people and maybe getting some new fresh perspectives. Getting to know individuals. I have very few people around me that will talk in depth about the inane stuff we talk about here. My wife goes into a coma if I start talking to her about mouthpieces and reeds. Maybe there are deeper issues then just pure laziness for many of these people.............. On the other hand, maybe they're just lazy.

Absolutely. But how's this for a concept. Read the available material and then begin your conversation with your new-found friends by taking it one step further. No harm in having a little background before jumping into a conversation, wot?

Well, if it makes Gary feel better, I'm a newbie who is reading (and searching) old threads before starting a new topic.
But some of us do want to get to know you oldtimers and feel a part of. Ands maybe that is what they are doing by starting new topics.
Welcome Old Charlie...your wisdom belies your age. :notworth:
er, 58 ain't old. Tell me it isn't so. Oh, tell me it isn't so.

Some days I feel 70 :( , others, I feel 38. The handle is just what came, not how I think of my age.
Definition: "Old is two years older than me." Unlike a friend of mine, I haven't started reading the obits daily -- probably never will.

I'm what you call a newbie to the forum. Took me awhile to figure it out. I may have made some mistakes before that though. I do think that this thread would be more at home in a violin forum. They make a much better high pitch whinning sound.
I vote in favor of.......er... if anybody has a question to just ask Garry < maybe a PM>.........( just kidding)
Get a grip, gary , use your knowledge for something more constructive other than complaining. Jeeze!...I was thinking of sending you a technical question, being that you're so knowledgable on your topics reffering to saxes. However after reading this thread and another more recent one posted by you, I don't think I'd ever have the nerve to send an e-mail to you dude.
KEEP COOL

CARL H;
The sound, dude the sound.....Haven't you seen a sad scene in a movie? The violin always makes a better sound to describe a sad scenerio.
whine=1) to utter a high pitch sound, as to compiain 2)to complain in a childish way
I believe that's Webster's definition of whine.
You got to hand it to the guy though. The guy is very knowledgeable when it comes to saxophone questions.
I'm not trying to knock the guy, I have alot of respect for his incredible knowlege.I'm just trying to point out that he could put his intelligence to better use, instead of complaining about newbie mistakes and st#$#* questions.
As for the violin.......Dude!! I love the violin.

actually that looks to me like the right number of characters for STupid
actually that looks to me like the right number of characters for STupid
I agree the number is correct but if the third and fifth characters are the same, "STupid" doesn't work. No, I don't have a better answer. :(

Unless "#" is a wildcard character. Like deuces-wild texas holdem'.
:)
"Whining". "Whinning" is something altogether different :tongue1:
How's that Mark IV working out for you?

I am not seeing any direct or personal attack in there. ???
From: Pete "saxpics" Hales
To: Anyone within whinning distance
Subject: Stop Whinning Already
IMO, one of the things that we, as SOTW Forum members, need to do is stop writing threads like this one. Why? Because there really isn't any good that'll come of them.
I've counted at least three threads that have the focus of, "Yo! N00b. Why don't you play with that search engine thingy a bit. And stop sending me PM's/e-mails until you do."
While I am definitely frustrated that people don't want to use or don't know how to use a search engine, I think that the only solution is to either a) point them in the right direction or b) ignore them.
It's different if Harri or another Administrator/Mod came out and said, "N00bz, if you demonstrate a lack of ability to use the Hasselhoffin' search engine, we'll put you on probation." That hasn't happened. As a matter of fact I distinctly remember discussions along the lines of, "Well, we can recommend using the search engine and proper language, but there really isn't a way of enforcing that. Let's live with it."
Unless, of course, we're trying to drive away new members because of a perceived elitist attitude.
Additionally, I haven't heard of any new folks being promoted to moderator/admin level because of threads like these. I have heard of people getting banned because of them, though.
In summary:
* Chill.
* Moratorium on threads like this one.
* If anyone starts a new thread like this, don't respond to it.
* If anyone starts a new thread like this one, click on the little "reporty" icon.
* If you think you're a victim of a personal attack, click the "reporty" icon and don't respond.
That's all.
Your pal,
Pete "saxpics" Hales, Former SOTWF Admin and All-Around Great Guy (I'm now just "pretty good")
Pete, I posted this over a YEAR AGO. Alvegasax resurrected it and basically told me to get a life. I was just sitting here minding my own business.
Well, not exactly. As a matter of fact I have spent several hours this afternoon and evening trying to help a fellow SOTWer get some information that he asked me by PM to help out on. I would consider that a positive not negative use of my time. Again I point out. This thread is over a year old and I did not resurrect it.

....he must've found the thread using the search function.
I tried to use the search engine to find a thread about how to use the search engine but I blew up in a puff of logic.
Look Pete. I posted this over a YEAR AGO. Alvegasax resurrected it - it's been lying dormant for an entire year - and basically told me to get a life. I was just sitting here minding my own business.

I know, but there are other more current threads and I'm not trying to single you out. Heck, I've participated in some of those other threads.
Shoulda just reported this thead for deletion.

Do I get a prize? Do you have an 8-track stereo recording of Chicago at Carnegie Hall? (3 tapes)
Hey Gary, Have you considered the concept of the "Veil of Ignorance?"
Philosophers ponder from behind this veil, maybe some sax players do too!
Maybe we can have a sub-forum for those who belong there. Kind-of an entrance purgatory or something.

How about giving Gary a holocaust cloak, or Tshirt (http://www.cafepress.com/princessbride/515820) for those times when rudeness needs responding to?
Less thought and more action, thats what I say!
