Around what serial number did Buescher start and stop using them? Also, this may show my ignorance, but could I change them myself without much difficulty?

I take it it's best left to those who know what they're doing?

If your mechanically minded and have a good leak-lite you should be able to do it.The snaps(resinators)push over a post and hold the pad in.A flat butter knife will lift the snap off and the pad should fall off the post.

Finally!! I've developed a renewed interest in early True Tones but can't live without snaps. It only took me 12 pages of threads to find when the snaps debutted or daybued. Too bad the Search function can't ask Jeeves.

My TT is from around 1919 and I like no snaps, no Nortons, no problems for me.

If I had to guess, they stopped around maybe '72. My 440,xxx has them, and that's somewhere around 1967 or 68. Saxpics says the last was the 556,xxx serial range.
