hello,
before, i have thought bari was a thing of the weirdos. but now, i think it's the best thing ever. I LOVE BARI!!!
the awesome sound, the privelege of taking up more space than the others, the low notes.....
wish i had a bass sax

Alas! another man has seen the light! I wouldnt mind a bass sax either... I rather like those beusher basses... but if I could afford a bari first... but I still love Bari!
Would anyone like to contribute to the get Martin Williams a nice tenor sax and a Bari Sax foundation? :P :D

We are gathering more and more to our cause everyday! Glad to here it, BrassaxMan5, and by the way, we meet at Martin's place every Tuesday night to scheme against the trumpets  just kidding!!!

Actually, some of my sax people DO meet at my house every tuesday... and sometimes we DO rant the trumpets! Those guys can be really annoying and arrogant! (Nevermind the fact I also play trumpet and Flugelhorn...)
The thing is, there is usually about 5 of us and collectively we can overpower the 20 man trumpet section of our old high school! Now that you have realized how great the low end is, you can still meet at my place every tuesday, I wont mind! Itd be kind of cool I think to start our own little SOTW sax orchestra or somethin... whaddaya guys think?

...sounds like wimpy trumpet players...the section in the big band I play in can blow so loud we can't hear ourselves play. Especially the high players! ...but it's a kool thing

Someone recently said that good bari players are born, not made....I guess the real question is where do all the fat, pimply, slow guys who give us a bad reputation come from? Since when was Bari where you put the guy who plays the worst? A good chunk of bari music is just the lead alto part being played an octave lower....man, so many HS and Jr.High directors are so clueless, aren't they? When that Bari is layin it down, the whole section just sings....when it's not there, it feels empty.
thoughts?

yeah, I agree.
at the heart of every big band sax section, there needs to be a bari coming through, otherwise the section doesn't have life.

I thoroughly enjoy baritone. Of all the saxophones, baritone is the one that comes to me the most naturally. I wish I could get more bari gigs. I only get to use it a handful of times a year. However, I do have a great audience with my 14 month old daughter, who prefers the bari over all my other saxophones.

The big band that I play in...me and one other guy fight over the bari seat, generally switching between one of the tenor seats when we can't play bari. We switch every 6-8 months. It is the 'anchor' post of the band, especially in modern BB charts (Thad Jones, Mendoza, Holland, etc...)
