When we say late bloomer, we mean an person who started late in life to become a sax player. But as we have progressed we have expanded that meaning to include teenagers and 20-some, would be musicians who feel they may have missed the chance to become a sax player because they didn't start in fourth or fifth grade in elementary school.
So many of the posts you will read ask, "Is it too late to start now?" The resounding answer is no. Go for it. I did and I'm glad. It's never too late. Well, you get the idea.
Another popular question is should I play soprano, alto, tenor, or baritone sax? Or another common variation is, "I've heard I have to start on alto sax but I've always wanted to play a tenor." A beginner can start on any kind of sax but most commonly it is recommended that you rent a horn for a while and take lessons to:
1. Speed up the learning process
2. Stop you from making the most common mistakes that can slow you down
3. Let you develop as a player so that you can choose an instrument based on some experience
There are some excellent articles for new players on the main Sax On The Web (http://www.saxontheweb.net/) (SOTW) site that are written just for you, the late bloomer and beginner. We encourage you to take your time to read the articles there and in this folder before you post.
Welcome to the ranks of the late bloomers!
