Picking up where we left off . . .

We had to cancel Sunday's gathering at the jam session at Mexica's Cafe in Sacramento, but Kirk and I intend to try again this Sunday (Feb. 9). The invitation still stands for you to join us for dinner beforehand.

The restaurant is Tres Hermanas, 2415 K St., Midtown Sacramento. This is close to Mexica's Cafe, 2326 K St.

We'll meet 5:15 p.m. at Tres Hermanas--if you want to meet for dinner. Otherwise the music starts around 7-7:15. I'm told the jam is going strong, so hopefully there will be some good sax playing.

For more info, email Kirk (Captkirk@citlink.net) or me (pbasofin@yahoo.com).

Sounds like a great idea. I'll be there if at all possible. Meanwhile, there's the concert at ARC put on by the Capitol Jazz Project on March 16th at 7pm. My wife and I are planning on that and think it would be neat to have dinner somewhere close maybe about 4:30 or 5. Any suggestions as to where we could meet? ARC is off I80 down Madison then right on College past Auburn Blvd. Less than a mile from I80. Several restaurants nearby, like Dennys, Brookfields, Strings, Eppies, Burgerking oops just kidding. Those are the biggest ones close by. If we decide on someplace I can get the address and you can download a map from Yahoo.

Peter-

I hope you can make it to Dixon on April 6.

If you and your wife would like to join us, there will be a group of SOTWs meeting at Strings at 5 p.m. on March 16. Strings is less than a mile from ARC. I need to reserve a table large enough for the group, so let me know if you would like to meet us for dinner.

Best,

Pete (Bass)

:D Hi Latebloomers and new loomers
Had a great time in Dixion, can't wait to meet again. Should we set a date?
Maybe we could just make it a regular event?

Any ideas, let me know

Kirk et al.

It was a pleasure to see everyone in Dixon. Our little gathering attracted four players and one spouse. If there are other older sax students in the Sacramento region, please let us know who you are. I'll put you on a mailing list for future events.

Speaking of which, the Capital Jazz Project is playing May 18, 7 p.m., at the American River College Theater. Guest musician is Charles McPherson, renowned altoist of the bebop camp. Should be a very special concert.

If you're interested in meeting at the concert and/or dinner beforehand, please email me (pbasofin@yahoo.com).

Always ready. Haven't done anything since the last meet at your house, which was a lot of fun and allowed us to meet Frank. Sure would like to take lessons from someone with as much experience as him. Kirk, if you have his phone #, try to find out where and when Frank and his group are playing, hopefully somewhere within 100 miles.

Hey Kirk-

September sounds like a good month to have a sax gathering in Rio Vista. Thanks for offering.

So far the weekend of Sept. 6-7 is not good for me (we'll be in Pittsburgh). But the other weekends are open.

Hey Late bloomers,
Whats New? Who all is making Lavey Smith on the 14th?

I haven't given up on setting a date for our next get together, Maybe it would help if everyone sent me the dates their open for the next couple months.

I got to see Mindy Abair at the Raddison Saturday. I even managed to get her autograph. She is ADORABLE an I really loved her shoes. She played first with Greg Adams next followed by Euge Groove. These are Tower of Power guys that have broken off on their own. Lots of brass, Mindi is the most inspirational (she plays alto sax).

Let me know,
Kirk

With our next Northern California gathering coming up Dec. 13, it's probably time again to invite other adult sax students to our little circle. There are four of us. We started playing about two years ago and have met several times to play together or attend concerts. It's been great to have some local guys to share musicial experiences, successes and frustrations.

So if your an older beginner in the Sacramento region or further out, drop me a note (pbasofin@yahoo.com).

Bass(Pete) is over in Dixon, Capt Kirk is in Rio Vista, Jay is in Fresno & myself,Peter, I'm up near Placerville in Shingle Springs. Sometimes it is quite a drive to meet, especially for Jay, but we do have fun. All of us are pretty much basic novice's, with varying degrees of music knowledge and ability (which isnt much). But we get in there and do our best. I just started back Feb this year. Played the sax for one year in college in 1966. Dont know why I waited this long to start again. That's life. Playing the sax just makes life that much more worthwhile and can make a great hobby. So like Pete said, dont hesitate to email any of us. We would love to have more players join with us. How about you females? I know there are some great players out there just wishing for someplace to break that horn out and wail. Come show us how it's done. We can use all the help we can get. My email address is claytonteel@sbcglobal.net . Get in touch.
