neck & mpc related items for storage

I've just bought a hiscox case and the storage space his way to small, hence there isn't sufficient space for the neck and mpc anymore.

I would like to know where other sax players store them. Are pouches a good way to go (like the kiwi ones) ? Any suggestions for brands ? ... even then where would i place my pouch(es) ?

I also have a Hiscox case- love the case but wish they would have designed it with more storage! I do use the kiwi 'original neck pack' for the mouthpiece and neck, fold it over and store it in the bell of my tenor, a Conn 10M.

If your saxophone does not have a large bell, you may want to use the kiwi 'New York' style pouch that stores the neck with the mouthpiece still attached. It will store in a space with a smaller diameter, but is obviously longer.

Folding a washcloth around the neck, with the mouthpiece still attached, and putting it in the bell that way should work untill you can find something online. I store my alto neck that way and keep the mouthpiece in its own protective device to protect both from rattling around inside the case. No visible scuffing to the bell has been noticable yet.

Mister_Bronson: A neck-bag down the bell will work. But if you include a reed guard, neck strap and mouthpiece with a large ligature (e.g., Rovner EDII, etc.), you may not have room in the bag, or in the bell.

In a similar thread, someone recommended using an auxilliary bag (like a small camera bag) strapped to the outside of the case. Made sense to me. DAVE

I use a kiwi for my alto neck and MPC, works fine.

Dave, i would only put the neck & mpc in the bell, the rest i put in the small storage space the hiscox case provides.

Regarding the ligature you might be onto something, indeed i use a FL lig so it is quite big so maybe extra precaution will be necessary down the bell.

I, too, have a Hiscox case. Here's what I do: The neck (only) is stored in a Pro-Tech neck/mouthpiece pouch and put in the sax bell. I normally keep 2 mouthpieces (classical and jazz pieces) in my saxophone case. I store them in seperate Kiwi mouthpiece pouches. These two punches, a silk swab, and my neck strap are about all that I can fit in the case's storage area. I keep my FL ligature in a smaller Kiwi mouthpiece pouch that I put in open area of the case by the horn's G# key. I haven't had any problems doing this. Oh, yeah, reeds! Since I often double on clarinet, I have a brief case in which I put my clarinet case along with reed cases for my horns, water bottle, tuner, music folder, and the rest of my stuff. This works for me. I suspose that I could fit a reed case in the Hiscox's storage area if I needed to. But, since I'm carrying the doubling case anyway it's a simple thing to put all of my reed cases in there.

It's never made sense to me to keep the mouthpiece on the neck when it's stored. I'd think that it's better for the neck cork not to have the mouthpiece on it all the time. Storing the neck and mouthpiece separately allows them to air out better. Anyway, just a personal take on it.

I like lots of people here have this case, and i find rather than spending several dollars on an bag that holds the neck and mouthpiece to simple, make with a needle and thread a small velvet bag or something and wrap the neck in it. Then the mouthpiece goes in the small compartment, theres more than enough space in the compartment i find for a mp and a box of reeds with pull through cloth, this is the alto model im talking about. Using a homemade bag ive found my neck is still in perfect condition.

DON'T get the neotech neck thing. It's a joke. Holds the neck fine, but won't hold the mouthpiece unless you take the ligature off. I can't even get a soprano mouthpiece in mine with a ligature. I just use a sock now, with the mouthpiece on the neck. No noticable damage to anything yet.

easy way to solve storage problems with flight cases -gigbags etc-.attach a camera bag or fanny pac (or even a womens purse) to the case and problems solved
