Does anyone know anything about these? Do they have any particular problems, aside from the whole reed thing? How much are they?

I'm asking for a reason, because if I can sell my band director on one, I can probably play it in a sax ensemble next year. 8)

Edit: If this is in the wrong forum, please move it. Thanks!

I suspect you will be hard pressed to find a bass sarrusophone. A contra bass sarrusophone didn't sell on e-bay this month. It started at $5500 and you can view it at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=16233&item=3740869 855&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW.

The Sammamish Sublimation band (http://www.sammamishsublimationband.org/)periodically uses one. It was completely refinished in Seattle at Oberloh Woodwind and Brass Works (http://www.oberloh.com/) and it is a beauty.

Sometimes they have them for sale at http://www.contrabass.com/pages/sarrus.html and a buddy of mine (in Seattle) has a number of sarrusophones for sale. If you are interested in talking with him PM me.

I beg to differ, but... (http://www.orsi-wind-instruments.it/surichiesta.htm)

Scroll down a bit and you should see them. Orsi makes a full range from soprano to contra on demand, apparently. I was just asking if anyone knows of any problems with them.
