I picked up my new JK SX90R tenor today and brought it home to try my stash of mouthpieces. I had thought that the Yani metal was going to work, but it was just so-so. The Link STM was playable, but nothing spectacular. I had high hopes for the metal Barone Jazz, since it sounded so good on my 875B Yamaha. It was better, but it still wasn't what I was looking for. Then I put on the Ponzol II-V-I .100 with a RSJ 3S reed, and viola! The low end was great (like it should be on the JK), but I was shocked at how good the upper octave was. I've never been strong in the higher register, and especially in the altissimo, but they pop out with this combination. And for once in my life, there's no real timbre difference in the notes above A2, and those below it.

I am finally one happy camper. Now, I've just got to get used to the keywork on the Keilwerth. The feel is very different from my previous Yamahas. I'm gonna run through Yakety Sax until it's comfortable!

I would love to have one of those -- I hear they are great. Right now I am having to live with my Selmer SA 80 I.

If you are ever down Birmingham way, drop me a note, and you're welcome to try mine out.

I appreciate it Morry, I might just do that one day. My family is from the Mobile area, so I pass through there occassionally.

Morry congrats on your new horn. I really like my alto yamaha custom and figured I would one day get a tenor custom. At a conference I tried a keilwerth sx90R and loved it. I have never played a horn that I liked better than the keilwerths I tried. For now my couf royalist will have to do.
