I live in the state of New York. I know you can get into all-city by reccomendation. I know you can get into all-county by doing a audition. I don't know how you get into all-state.
If any one knows how you can get into All-state jazz band or concert band please tell me i would love to know.

Its really quite simple...get a NYSSMA solo that is a level six. (They're listed in the NYSSMA manual) Next practice it until you can't practice any more, cause you're going to need a perfect score to get into allstate.
What part of NY are you on? I went to last springs NYSSMA and got a 100 on my classical allstate audition...hopefully I'll be getting into the allstate band. You never know... :S

i live in Rochester and i play the Baritone sax. i want to audition for all-state Jazz band. I was wondering how do i get signed up? do i just go to the local Nyssma and say "listen here buddy i want to sign up for All-state? or do i have to fill out a application then set up a appointment or what? Aslo do i need a year in all-county? because this is going to be my first year trying to get into a all-star (per say) group. I have some of Charlie Parkers solos learned from the omni book like ko-ko and Shawnuff (they are both level 6) do you think they would except that? what ever you know please tell me.
Thanks i appreciate it a lot.

woah woah woah...slow down buddy. You're not going to be able to try out until next spring. This years solo-fests are over. Summer Conference, where they decide who gets in, is happening very soon. Next year at school you need to talk to your band director about it. They sort of have to reccommend you, and they'll give you the proper forms.
As long as the music is in the NYSSMA manual and its a level 6, you're fine.
