Hello folks,
Back in the 70's, as a teenager, I was fortunate enough to get a paying gig playing rodeos in Oklahoma and Texas. We would sit up in a box at the end of the arena and play fast and furiously. It was always as loud and fast as we could take it. We would play grand entry's that would last up to a hour and then play short segments (8 seconds) during the events. It was always fun to try to time our endings to stop just as the cowboy hit the ground. We would play mainly circus gallops and such. I remember watching artist like Red Stegal, Tanya Tucker,, and others play during the intermission. When Tanya Tucker came out to make her appearance on horseback, it ran away with her and we sit up there in the box laughing our butts off : )
Now that I think back on it, I believe it was very much like playing in a circus band. Are there any others here that have had experience in rodeo or circus gigs?
