I need your help on this

Just acquired a 1920 Buescher Tenor from ebay (less than 2 hours ago). It's gonna be sent to San Francisco to my in-laws. And they know nothing about Saxophone

Can I have some advise on Sax Repair stores who can give honest opinion on the horn if it requires repair or clean up. (I myself am not anywhere close to San Francisco, more like 9 hours away by air).

Thanks very much.

:)

May be a great guy and a great shop - but that is a rather painful web page! You can skip the agony by going straight to:

Is House of Woodwinds still in business? They were, and may still be, located in downtown Oakland. I bought my tenor there almost twenty years ago. I can't vouch for their repair business then or now, as I never took anything in for work during the few years I lived in the Bay Area. It seemed to be a nice store with competent folks, though. Just remember that was twenty years ago! It's an option, in any case.

Walt sold House of Woodwinds a couple of years ago to the folks who run A & G Music and Best Intrument Repair (NOT Best Music, that's a different place). They closed the Oakland store and kept the San Ramon store open as House of Woodwinds. Walt still works there a few days a week, as far as I know.

At Walt's recommendation I started taking my horns to Best Instrument Repair for major work. Bob Grasso at Best Instrument Repair does excellent work, reasonably priced, and fast.

Thanks,
My wife called up the House of Woodwinds in SR. They said they can have an appreasal on the horn free of charge. (I'm not in the States).
