Hi,
can you tell me if 1967 was a good year for the Buffet Superdynaction tenors? Did they have the keywork of the S-1 in 1967? What is a fair pirce for one in good condition?
Thanks!
Cliff

I read this and immediately into my head came the Sinatra line "It was a very good year" "When I was forty five".

If the low Eb and C keys don't have rollers but the body says Super Dynaction then it's a transitional.

Thanks very much for the info and the link. Is $1300 too much to pay for a 1967 Superdynaction tenor in good playing condition, or does that seem out of line for these horns?

I think I know which horn you're after, and if I didn't already have a Dynaction from a few years earlier (a great-playing and wonderfully dark ballad tenor), I'd be after it as well. Seems like a fair price if the horn doesn't need pads, has had no major repairs, has no major dents or neck pull-down, is adjusted to play NOW.

There are no bad years for true Buffet-Crampon Paris saxes, and this is one of their finest models.

I just wish they were as readily available in the UK :(

Go for it !

I saw the same EBAY ad and it seems like a reasonable price for a great horn.

I think I just bought the horn you were looking at, sorry. I ran across it off ebay, and coulden't pass up the deal.

The tranny was available from 1973 to 1975, at least that what my serial say on the alto and tenor (both a tranny SDA). But I'd say the acoustics of the old SDA is more dark in sound.

The tranny and S-1 has the same keywork as Selmer, offset toneholes and everything, but just a little 'fancier'. Some later tranny models have adjustable thumb rest (like the S-1) and high F#. S-1 has smaller bore, and somewhat more classical based than the other SDA models.

Yes, you stole my horn
I had just gottn an e-mail from the seller, every sounded great, I went to but it but you got it first. Ya snooze ya loose. Well, if you change your mind I'll buy it. I guess I'll just have to hold out for another, I'll try for a transistional model, I think: sounds like the best of both the SDA and the S-1.

Enjoy, it looks a great horn.

Thanks for all of the great info, it's great to learn about these awesome horns.

I didn't steal it. I saw it and bidded on it before I saw your posts. But hey, it didn't seem like it was exactly what you were looking for, so it'll at least allow you to wait to find exactly what you wanted.

CK, those trannys are very rare to find. I've seen 4 of them for three years in eBay, and two of them became mine! (tenor and alto). But if you see one, don't hesitate to get it. Get it repadded with oversized plastic resos and you'd be kickin A against MK6 or SBAs.

I know you didn't steal it, sorry I was joking
It would be nice to hear what you think of it after you've had it. It looks like a great horn.

Cheers!

Well its not my horn anymore. He was too impatient and woulden't allow me time to be able to get stuff strightened with my bank account (I told him I'd have payment by Tuesday), and ended up relisting (without telling me first he was going to relist), and next thing I knew I had an email saying "I relisted it and its already sold to someone else." So looks like I'm back on the hunt anyway.

There are a couple more on Ebay right now. There is a really nice looking 1961 Super Dynaction up there for about another day, starting bid at $1500. It's gorgeous.
