That hand-made "bambus" is pretty expensive for what seems to be a novelty instrument. I wonder how nicely it plays..
Has anyone here had any experience with a wooden or bamboo saxphone?

I bought a Xaphoon long ago, and wasn't too impressed. It's more useful as a decorative piece than something you can actually play. the main problem is the "mouthpiece" table and lay are actually carved out of the bamboo stalk, and are, um...imprecise, to say the least.
I think there are other bamboo or wooden horns available that take a conventional mouthpiece that probably would play better than this one.

Yeah.. I thought that would be the case.. :)
The Bambus saxophone featured on that page takes a standard tenor mouthpiece.

i just bought that bambus yesterday, and its loads of fun. Handy for practicing late at night/ on long car journeys/ just to keep the embouchure alive when you cant carry a sax around constantly. Any other questions just ask!
