Hi,

I have been playing the tenor for a couple of years and sometimes find practising a bit tedious and was wandering if I had an intiative such as a practise partner or a community band that would be willing for me to join in with them on simple pieces, I feel that this would assist greatly in my timing/tone etc and I could use my time practising more effectively

Does any body know of any community bands in the West London area that would be happy for me to join them occasionaly. Or even if there is anybody on this forum that would be interested in practising together once a week or so?

My standard is alright, though I can't do any fancy licks at the moment!

 When you 're at school you have always friends that you can practise with. However, that all changes when your an adult and no one else you know plays a musical instrument...

Does any one feel the same? I would really appreciate any responses!

Can't help you with community bands. But if you are looking for opportunities to get help and comments from fellow musicians, join us over at "SOTW Member Recordings" "Post a Recording" We pick a tune or so a week, each records a clip, and then we compare our approaches. Check out Bayview's webpage for his switchboard and you can see a list of tunes we have done over the past year with links to individuals clips on the websites. :)

I think the best source of local community band information might be your local music store, or the one nearest to you.

Try looking here for a coomunity band in your area, mostly US based, but a good handful in the UK

There are a lot of UK bands on that website, saxdiva. If you still need help, though, you might give a call to one of the board members of the British Association of Symphonic Bands and Wind Band Ensembles. I'm sure they would be willing to help you. Here they are. http://www.basbwe.org/basbwe/executivecommittee.asp
