Hello all,

I recently picked up a used Vito alto saxophone and am new to reading music. I took the saxophone to the music store and had new cork and purchased a new mouthpiece. I purchased a book along with a CD and DVD to play along.

My wife has been working with me and I have been practicing for one day now. I have never played a musical instrument before and this experience is new to me. Could you please offer any tips to help with my learning process?

Also, there is a serial number on the saxophone and I am wondering if I could look up the date it was manufactured.

Thank You,
Carl

If you can afford the time, I'd highly recommend a private teacher. There are many thing that took me a long time to figure out that had I had a private teacher, it would have saved me so much time. Especially when your a beginner, I'd recommend one just so you don't start developing bad habits.
