what's a zephyr tenor with serial number 388xxx worth? it's in very good condition and has been adjusted by steve goodson just recently....excellent player, huge sound....75% laquer remaining, but it's very cool the way the wear is on it. you can tell where a previous player rested his hand on the front of the bell.

ROFLOL... the precision was a joke...these saxophones are worth what you can get for them. That horn is probably a great player, but that late of a Zephyr does not have a lot of 'collectable' mystique. I have seen a number of Zephyrs and the ones that were made +/- 25K serial number from the first Super 20s were the best (IMHO). Anyways, an average eBay Zeph of your vintage is worth $500-$600 and sadly, a top notch rebuild is only worth a couple hundred bucks unless the rebuilder is personally standing behind the horn...so a little less than $800 is reasonable.

thanks for all of your info. I figured that it was somewhere around there. i bought it years ago for $700, and it was in pretty bad adjustment. so i got it overhauled, and it came back smokin'. Recently i brought it to steve for him to try and sell it, but then got it back from him because i had found a "buyer". When i picked it up, steve said it didn't need much when i brought it to him, and that he had done a few adjustments, but that it was a nice player (i knew that already :) Needless to say the buyer backed out, and here i am needing to sell it.

do you think that ebay is probably the best route to sell my horn?

I would try it here first...then eBay as a last resort. Depending on the particular week on eBay, you might get $550, you might get $900...it is a crapshoot. I generally post on eBay about $50 less than I want for the horn and offer a free shipping "buy it now" at about $100 more than I expect to get, and if anyone bids, I often get the buy it now price. Really good pictures and a very honest description are your best sales tools on eBay...skip the hype.
