Sounds like a pad might be leaking, Because the mouthpiece usually has nothing to do with multiphonics. Have you noticed this happening before? Could be a side effect of switching to a new mouthpiece that puts more/less wind through the horn. Anybody else got any ideas?

Doc,

Is the 7* a much larger tip opening than the one you were playing before? If it is, that may be the source of your difficulty. A Link of that size usually requires a fairly well developed airstream, especially if you are used to a piece with a more close tip and a smaller chamber. In that case, the second octave G could give you trouble, since it can be a finicky note if you don't support it with strong air.

Also, if the new mpc is larger, you might try moving to a softer reed so you don't have to work so hard, and so you don't develop a habit of biting the reed. Take a look a ways down in this topic for a thread called "Tenor Leaks." You may be experiencing something similar.

I too had some problems with that Otto link metal #7. You have to reallize that if you upgrade mpc to a one with a larger tip opening, it will require more air support. Practice, practice, practice is a good tip i think. I "accepted" that mpc after a month or two, with that i mean i could start to consentrate on the music, not the mouthpiece.. ;) A strange thing though, is that now, 7 months later, i tried my old mpc, and it feels SOO wrong. No air, not at all the great sound as the Otto link. Before, i couldnt here the difference. NOW, i do. Cool huh? Honk on dude, it will eventually come to you. And when it does, you will feel great. Also! For me (do not know about others), with that Otto link 7 metal, it is now easier to hit low B and Bb, and the sound is much more "cool" and groovy i think.

Hi,

I had a similar problem with G. Some useful suggestions were made on this link:

Good luck and keep practicing....
