I've been playing off and on for a while, and recently started playing full time again. Granted I've been playing since grade school (i'm 26) and most say I'm pretty darn good. But what is that lil key right above the B natural key (left 1) I know the lil key below it is an alternate bflat fingering but the key right above it?
I've been playin all these years and just decided to ask.........never used it at all. It's probably stuck or frozen since I've never thought to press it. If I did it was by accident while I was "being fancy" or showin off...lol
Thanks!!!!
That's the 'Blazing Bop Chops' key! press that and it's like you are channeling Cannonball, Stitt and Coltrane all at the same time! :wink:
No, actually its the alternate high F key. If you play an A with the octave key, and then move your top finger to press that lil key, a nice high F might come out.

Thanks a bunch, I'm at work now, but can't wait to go home and press that lil key and see who I sound like.............lol
blazenu, that key (called the "front F") is generally used for some of the altissimo (high notes, above the "normal" range) range. In addition to what the other posters said, here are two commonly used fingerings with that key:
G3 = Octave key, front F, +/- side Bb
D4 = Octave key, front F, +/- side C
Note these two fingerings are almost identical. You have to change your voicing (throat muscles, tongue position) to get the high D vs the G3.

Oh yeah...when practicing the arpeggio for the saxophone F scale, after the C with octave, just add the f..its really fun, especially for when you're bored. :lol:

I tried the Blazing Bop Chops key and my darn sax got stuck on Kenny G. I must admit though, it is fun playing the F arpeggio adding that final high F.
