My leaky horn is being tuned up. How did I let this happen over a weekend?

I know there are things I could be doing. I have a dog I could take to the park, a spouse I could talk to, maybe go to a movie. I actually went through my sax material on my flute, but it's not the same. I have been staring at horns on eBay all day. I now understand gear acquisition syndrome. I wish I had a spare!

I'm in Portland. Thanks, I wasn't asking for handouts--just releasing a cyber-sigh!

It's rough when you're into a musical instrument & it has to spend a few days in line for repair.Where my heart really aches is for those who've had instruments stolen or badly damaged. Some of the stories of saxes being run over, left behind, flying out of cars & such that have been told elsewhere on the forum leave me feeling queasy!

It's a good idea to have a back-up horn, especially if you're gigging. Even an old beater Bundy can get you through a gig or two.

Didnt think you were. I was just wondering if anyone on the forum was in Salem. A number of folks are from Portland.

Hi, Sigmund. I would be surprised if there weren't other SOTW folk down in Salem. There do seem quite a few up here. Maybe some will float down your way!

And, come to think of it, I'm not too proud for handouts at this point. (Approaching Day 3 of saxlessness.) Maybe someone has a spare Mark VI lying around...

I don't have a spare sax to loan you (I am hiring my current one) but I do have a spare 17kg around my belly you can have if you like. I have no idea where it came from I just woke up one day and there it was.

Horns i've got in the shop:

Kohlert 'VCS' Alto with micro-tuner neck
Selmer Centred-tone clarinet
Borgani Nickel-plated tenor
Martin Handcraft 'Typewriter' alto

Thats what happens when I buy 'cheap' horns, I end up spending more just to get them playable.

3 days?

I've got a "Chu" Alto that's been in the shop for a month. Also a Martin Comm 1 that looks like being 2 months in the shop.
Until then, I have my son's old student Alto.
It's rough when your 10 year old son has a better horn than you do.
Even worse is when your son has a better sound than you do. I'd enforce my paternal authority and swap horns with him, but I sound terrible on his horn. The only thing worse than a 10 year old with a big sound, is one that knows it and rubs your face in it. :)
