I need some help. I have changed over to tenor and am having some problems with G3 and above any fingerings help would be great. I really love this horn.

My favorite by far for G3 is front F / side Bb. Pops right out on my Crats ('33/'40).
Up the horn I go:
G#3: LH 1, 3 / RH 1 / side C
A3: LH 2, 3 / RH 1, 2, 3
(if flat, lift up RH; if still flat, open up G# cup)
Bb4: as A, but lift up LH 2
(if flat, do as A)
B4: palm D / (opt.) side Bb
C4: palm D, Eb / (opt.) side Bb
C#4: as C, but add side C
(put Bb down if you like)
D4: palm D, Eb, F / side C (opt. E)
Eb4: as D, but add side Bb
(ie: all sides/all palms)
That's the end of the 3rd register, and as far as I go...yet. (D and Eb are still subject to change. :) )
There are a couple of great altissimo fingering sites out on the web if you want a pool of choices to mess with. I know people chide that it's "not all about the fingerings," but I look at it another way. Trying to sound the same note different ways is great blowing practice once you have a basic sense of voicing.
D4 can also be played using just the front F key. You have to "voice" it up there, but it's fairly easy to hit. Sometimes when you're going for G3, the note will shoot up to D4. Take some time and you can learn to control this. I find my 'Crat tenor to be one of the best horns for altissimo.....very clear and in tune up there.

The fingering Paul mentions as his favourite always works perfectly on my 270K Buescher.

paul, bootman - for G3, do you mean front F as in Front F key AND L2 or just front F?
On my 276 'crat, i get F# if i play normal high F3 plus side Bb. I actually find this a little flat even. I find that adding RH1 sharpens it a little.
Oh yes ....Bootman, I've been playing that berg HR 125/3 SMS that has come to me via you, via christianw...... great altissimo on that piece and nice fat, dark, responsive sound.

Paul S,
I use Front F, side Bb and RH1 for F#3. I remove the RH1 finger for the G3. G# is LH1, 2, 3 side C. A is LH 23, RH 12(3).
The Berg was good on the Buescher but I prefer a metal mpc soundwise on a tenor. I am currently using a modified Ponzol M2 120. Lawton's also play well but they take a bit of work to get going.
