On April 17 I shipped two very nice tenor mpcs. to an individual in Hong Kong who goes by the name of Garrick Chung, gcsongbird@hotmail.com. He has yet to pay for the merchandise, a JVW Meyer and a Morgan Excalibur. After numerous entreaties for him to either pay or return the mpcs, he has stopped responding to emails. I am quite disappointed at having to write this in order to alert other sellers on this forum; however, I feel a responsibility to do so in order to avoid having anyone else face a similar dilemma. I have always looked upon this forum as somewhat of a family having been a member for a number of years and having dealt with many of you in buying, selling, and trades, including Mojo, Jim Cuevas, Jeff Brody, jrsopsax, the late JVW, and numerous others. If someone out there knows Mr. Chung, if he is ill, or there are other mitigating circumstances, I would appreciate some communication in this regard. If not, please be forwarned.

Please note, this individual also uses the email address gbc@georgetown.edu.

This person Also attempted to get one of my NYSS and NYPro Kessler Custom mouthpieces. He bid on both over ebay and has never sent payment. I have not sent him mouthpieces though.

If either of these mpcs show up on ebay, I think folks should know where they are coming from. That's another reason I posted this.

Interesting.. I actually sold a tenor mouthpiece to him (it was March or April, cannot remember exactly) and everything went fine. He paid first and then I shipped the piece to him. If I remember correctly he said he's recording something and wanted to get that piece before that.

I sent 3 Dukoffs for a trial to Garrick in March 2004. He paid me for one as is my trial policy. He was going in for some oral surgery at the time and could not play test them for quite a while. He said his recovery was not good (infection). So, I allowed an extended trial period. He did pay me for the other two in June.

I'm glad things worked out better for you than they did for me, as I have yet to receive payment or the return of the mpcs.

I had big problems with this bloke selling my RPC tenor piece. he messed me around for about a month and lost me other interested players. Eventually he stopped replying and I readvertised and sold it to a very happy player, grief free . Avoid if possible though I don't think he's a conman just inconsiderate and untogether.

Aaah, yes...Garrick: after what I've seen posted I must've been lucky, he is certainly mouthpiece hungry! He bought my Guardala Studio, just before paying he tried to haggle the price as he didn't realise the exchange rate had changed...anyway I've shipped the piece (something I really cared about, having owned it for about 12 years) and he didn't even bother telling me if it turned up or not...

Still, at least I got payed...never again though!

Very interesting. Again, just a "heads-up" to forum members. If these items appear for sale or trade, you will be, in essence, purchasing stolen property. Today is July 20, and the transaction took place months ago, so it is obvious that he has no intention of returning the mpcs or paying for them.

He's baaaaack...

Garrick won an auction I had on a Berg Larsen piece last month. I specified paypal only, he first said he would paypal by the weekend, he said he was getting a money order two weeks ago. He also committed to buying the Dukoff I got from Aaron Santee advertised on SOTW, so he lurks here as well.

I may be way out of line, but I think three weeks is more than reasonable for ebay payment. I'll keep you guys posted as to whether this works out.

FYI, his ebay id is ibleedhoyablues, 100% positive feedback, so I'm confused as to why I'm having troubles...

Ok

Lets set the record straight.

Garrick Chung is a stand up guy. He bought 3 Selmer Soloist alto pieces off me about 2 years ago (JVW, Theo, Fred Rast), he paid $350US each, and paid me in money orders for all of them. He had medical problems that delayed one of the payments, and he is an honorable man.

Enough of the trash talking, just wait it out, and I promise he will be a man of his word, without you guys being jerks with nasty emails. Nasty emails do not help any situation, especially when somebody is ill.

I guess I just don't understand why anyone would ship an eBay item before receiving the money, let alone before receiving the money from Asia. It's tough enough to prosecute in the states.

I'm with you, someotherblues, if it works out I'll be the first to compliment the man here as well, I was just stating facts, as I got worried seeing other people who had trouble with payment from the same gentleman. I've had great email conversations with him in the past. Knowing he's changed his ebay id doesn't make me any more confident, though.

Gandalfe, I said the auction ended and I'm awaiting payment; I never said I shipped anything. I'll have those pieces for sale again if I never get paid. I'll give him another couple of weeks, then it will have been over a month.

Garrick, if you're out there, I sent you another email asking if you got the money order out as planned. Sorry if I've offended anyone, that wasn't the intent.

I've got to share my experience with Garrick, which happened just a few days ago.

He won an auction from me, I wrote him telling him how I needed to be paid, and he sent money. He emailed me with a very nice email, and 3 days later I received the money---from Hong Kong to Boston.
This was a first class ebay experience and I would not hesitate to do any deals with him in the future.
Sorry to hear of others that didnt have as nice an experience...but I would give him 2 thumbs up as to our deal.

Glad you had better luck. I never did see payment for the piece he won from me or get another response to multiple emails. Finally gave up emailing and gave him a neutral feedback this past week as I never lost money on the piece. I hate to leave negative feedback unless I really feel I got ripped off.
