Hey everyone!
I was hoping I could get some advice from you experienced jazzers.

I started a combo with some guys last year, because we were all sick of the lack of dedication in our school's jazz band. We've done probably half a dozen gigs off and on throughout the year, (music fundraiser dinners, school banquets, a few bookstore gigs), but we're really looking to get more gigs. We don't really care if we get paid or not (we usually get about 40-50 dollars in tips per gig anyway, so that's a nice added bonus), we just want to gain more experience so we'll be ready for paying gigs when they come our way.

Also, I was hoping someone would know of a website or book that lists standards all musicians should know, because we all decided one thing we wanted to do over the summer was build up our repertoire.

Thanks!

As far as getting more gigs, look at "The Band" area above. Several threads about getting more business there, with some good ideas.

For what tunes everybody should know, I think there's a thread on that subject somewhere on SOTW, try some searches. Also, search the web for band websites. Most of them post their songlists and you can get ideas from there which tunes are most popular.
