About two or three weeks ago I bought an alto SDA from the Brass and Woodwind shop in Victoria. Its a great horn.
So the day before yesterday I'm visiting some relations and the cousin says you should check out 'isell' magazine, it has all kinds of great stuff - maybe you'll find a sax there. I explained (in a fairly patronizing way) that you're not going to find a pro or vintage horn in a publication like that. Maybe some student horns, but that would be it. But pass it over here - maybe we can find your daughter a student flute.
Well of course I then have to eat my words, as the very first ad in the instrument section is for an SDA tenor. A quick phone call, a quick visit to play her, a visit to the bank in about 20 minutes and I'm on my way to pick her up at lunchtime. :D
At which point she's going straight to the tech, as she's not quite in playing condition. Theres a weak spring or something happening around the C2 mechanism. Also she hasn't been worked on in several years so she needs to be tweaked.
I'm pretty happy. About a month ago I was going to bite the bullet and buy a new Ser III alto for mega bucks. I had the checkbook in my pocket. The only thing that saved me was they screwed up the shipment of selmers into the store. Now, I have a great alto and a tenor for less money than I was going to spend on the selmer. :D :D
