I just read in the misc. saxophone discussion area that mr. Steve Lacy has passed away .... very sad news.

What a huge bummer. Whenever I think of Steve, I think of that song he used to do, I think it was called, "The Duck". It was hilarious! Man, he could play. The depth of his vision, the humor and spontaneity, and the way he tamed the soprano to do his beckoning was just amazing. The music world just got smaller.......damn.......

rest in peace. que descances en paz. a mentor who gave more than the notes his soprano could ever express. i just heard in new york he passed around noon on thursday. very sad.

Very sad news. His music is GREAT and will live for generations to come. I hope he enjoyed his last months at home in the U.S. and found his return home to be worth the pain he went through the past years.

So sad, it's true. We'll miss him. He was such a great musician--spare, economical, lean. I love to listen in between the lines of a Lacy solo. You can almost hear him thinking all the wonderful things that he left out. Amazing the way he could make silence swing. His music will surely keep swinging...
