View Full Version : R.I.P. Mr. Steve Lacy
I heard today that soprano sax master Steve Lacy died. A very unique and original voice in jazz has passed. I just listened to "Ask Me Now"- peace to you Mr. Lacy.

That is very sad news.... He was one of those few artists that kept on developing. What a shame that development had to come to an end. He has been and will continue to be my main influence - he has set standards for the soprano saxophone technically and musically that I can only hope to achieve some next life. "I remember Lacy (and Thelonious)"...

if this is so then i'm in total shock! i first seen and heard this musical enigma in 1973. i never got over that experience in all the years since. i'm truly saddened also my condolences to irene and his colleages. a scientist in the truest sense because because his body of work was like his lab. an expression/improv took on the weight of poets, writers, painters, philosophy, literature, compo sers and of course monk. the smallest intervals were as massive as symphonys. i'm really hurt, man. it couldn't come at a worse time. rest in peace.
