I've been playing for about a year now and I was wondering if I'm doing the right thing. For example: I'm playing "Misty" in the key of "F." The lead sheet is for Bb instruments. Now, the song starts off with a F7 for four beats and then changes to Cmi7 for two beats and then to F7 for two beats etc. Am I suppose to change that fast with all the chords? Now, I have been practicing the blues scales and I put the "F" blues scales over it and it sounds pretty good. I was just running around with the "F" blues scale and listening to the melody trying to keep harmony. I was also trying to import other scales, such as, the "F" pentatonic scale and the "F" minor scale trying to add flavor. Am I crazy! or am I on the right track! Help!
One more thing...If the song is in "Fma7 are all the other chords "Modes" within that scale?
Thanks to anyone

You might want to try this question in the Jazz Improv area, since it deals more with theory than with the tenor sax.

Technically you could get away with holding a C through it all ... not to mention "... An error is simply a failure to adjust immediately from a preconception to an actuality." - Cage

Cage aside: you should not only change as the chords change you should anticipate and make those changes fluid. Probably right: take it up in the improv forum ;)
