Hi everyone,
I just took delivery of a NOS buffet SDA tenor.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3723657375&ssPageName= ADME:B:EOAB:US:6

Turns out it's a transitional model with S1 keywork. Keys are lacquered. ican't tell if it's sparkle lacquer or not. What a sax. Heavy and robustly built. 100% lacquer, brand new. It's like travelling back in time to 1979. Played with it a little, low notes come out effortlessly. Intonation seems about right.Tone wise, it has a more modern sound compared to my Buescher Big B. Altissimo to F# no problem. G3 not easy, but that's me. Experimenting with various mpcs. What are you guys using?

So it was you who got this gem :D

I'd been admiring that one from here in the UK. It certainly looks the perfect horn.
Mouthpiece wise, I use a Yanni metal #7 on my SDA Alto and find it effortless.

Congrats on your Tenor. I'm envious !

The transitional model is the best of all. I got a NOS 1969 Superynaction tenor off ebay about 3 years ago for $1800 (it had never been played or sold) but I found the old fashioned LH pinky table a bit awkward. I sold it at a profit and changed to a S1 which was OK but not great - I'm not sure it was a good example. I loved the rich tone of the SDA and I am sure you have a great horn.

Congrats!

I play a 1961 SDA tenor, have used Bergs, Guy Hawkins, Meyer HR, Jumbo Java, but my fave is a Quantum 12 Mojo special. a bright mpc makes this horn come alive, all that rich dark tone comes to the forefront...

Welcome to the club! Mine's also the transional with high F# and S-1 keywork. For a couple grand that's real investment because these trannys are WAY better than SBAs or MKVI, it just has so much volume and power. The tranny may sound a little bright because of the large, thick flat metal resos so I'm having one overhauled with oversize plastic resos (it's about time). You just found the one of the best horns in the planet! Congratulations. :)
