I have a post-THC alto that I think is not only good playing but has mechanism response and feel that competes with contemporary saxes. I'm wondering what the bari is like.

The pTHC alto/tenor inherit design from the THC. Where did the bari come from? Is the design nearly equivalent to one of Buescher's previous baritones? What's the actual model number, is there an S-45 or something like that?

For example, this one has gone through ebay a couple times: auction 2504974879. I'd guess this hasn't sold because it's right on the edge of buescher/selmer, and because it's been buffed.

I like the Post Selmer 400 just fine, even in the Bundy Stencil.

It's a lovely design, and has a responsive play character.

The problem is that larger saxophones (like dogs) don't seem to age particularly well... the linkages have more surface area and the possibilities for misalignments are greater.

The Alto is sturdy by comparison.

Be 'wari' of any older Bari that is likely to need service, my tech charges more for older horns... they take more bench time to get them right.

The Curvy Beast does not travel well, particularly when packed by an amateur. It's almost better to have the horn and case shipped separately.

If it was my money, I would hold out for a Bundy II or get a same generation Conn in the original finish.

Good luck getting your money back out of this one if it comes time to sell or trade up... I think this one is priced at the high end of normal, and while it is a nice looking relacquer - who knows about the set up.

I looked over the sellers other auctions, and I think they're fishing... prices are set on the high side but 'offers are considered' after the auction.

Buying any one of these online should have a right of return and some protection for you as a buyer (credit card or escrow).
