Hey Merlin - Is Sax on Yonge still around? I saw a for rent sign in the window last time I was by.

How about the Rocket? Kirk plays there all the time.

i think that they closed or something. I am not sure, but I know one place I knew has closed down. it may have been them, or maybe I just forgot.

Sax on Yonge is gone...

too bad, since the setup of the room was nice, and the food was decent. I did a bunch of big band gigs there last year.

Toronto has a reputation for closing jazz venues. To think the Colonial Tavern had been torn down and replaced with a plaque and an ATM machine. Many in the Jazz community here never expected Sax on Yonge to last as long as it it did. Jazz clubs don't last on that strip (I feel lucky to have herd jazz at the Silver Rail before it closed).

I recommend along with the above mentioned clubs to visit the Q Club over on Queen and Coxwell on a Saturday afternoon. It's a hidden gem, often with a lot of heavy hitters showing up to jam.
