I have a 6M alto with an alternate G# key on the right side. Is this "normal" for a 6M, or on any sax for that matter? I have never seen this on any other sax. Was this an option offered by Conn? If so, is was this a popular option?
The alt. G# key is located right between 1 and 2 on the right side.

Just curious.......

That was normal for 6M's up until about the mid-50's. I've got a '53 6M with the alternate G#. It was a common feature of most American-made saxophones until the 40's.

Most 20's & early 30's horns also had an E-flat trill key, operated by fingering a low and middle "D", and lifting the middle right-hand finger, which operated a small key that was generally located on the left side of the horn just above the joint of the body tube and the bow.

My 1953 6M also had this key. My sax technician removed it for me because it adds resistance on the G# key and I would never use it anyway. I'll keep it and offer it to the next owner.
