i learned to play sax on an antigua winds alto. my father purchased it for me about six years ago at a pawn shop for $250. i have not been able to find info about it online. the only markins that *seem* to denote the model are upsidown on the bell brace

the horn is in decent condition, except the pads. and the low D# key guard is missing, but the laquer is in pretty good conditions and there are no dents that can be seen without very close inspection, and it has a high F# key.

can anyone here tell me something about these saxophones? is it worth the money to repad? the current pads are very sticky and torn. i am thinking of using it to learn how to repair saxes. if i can get it back in shape will the sound be any good? i have fond memories of it from my first 4 years of saxophone playing, and it has a nice look, much more classy than the yamaha i bought to replace it (though not as nice as my conn), with darker laquer and nice pearls, plus i like the keywork, but the sound is by far the most important, and i will not put any money into it if i won't get the sound.

torzn: I doubt that you will know if it has the sound UNTIL you put the money into it. A good overhaul can do wonders for an instrument as long as the basic construction is decent. I can't comment on older Antiguas, but once put back into playing shape (and probably made better than original in the process), you may be surprised. DAVE

e-mail me the serial number on the sax (below the right hand thumb hook). I will compare this to my records and let you know what model I believe it is.
