Speaking of dogs, scene at a Robert's grocery store today, near Tchoupitoulas
street.
A man in slightly raggedy clothes walks up to a black lab, tied to a cement
post outside the grocery, takes the leash and begins to walk off. The
dog is a bit confused, turning its head toward the grocery doors, and
begins trotting off with the stranger. Suddenly shouts come from the door.
A very compact man of about 40 is exiting the store, loaded down with
grocery bags in both hands; he's shouting, "HEY...HEY, MAN, GET YOUR -Censored-
HANDS OFF MY DOG!" Man in raggedy clothes turns and stands there, trying
to look threatening, and puffed up, big. Now it's the shorter man's turn
to be confused. Clearly worked up, he's looking down at his grocery bags,
at the dog, at the stranger; there are eggs sticking out of the top of
one of the bags; he doesn't want to break them.
"GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY DOG!" he yells again.
"This ain't your dog, man!"
Short man unloads huge kick to the leg of the stranger with the dog. Stranger
goes down, and immediately has had enough of stranger, the dog, the whole
scene. Runs off limping.
Short man and dog are buddies of mine. Short man is training to be a cage
fighter, and is a purple belt in Jiu Jitsu. |

Runs along the river, uptown of Canal. At Napoleon, one corner of it is
home to Tipitina's (tra-la-la-ah). |
