I've heard that it is coming out later this year or early next year. Is that true? Does anyone of you have more info on this.

Yes, it's true. Selmer is coming out with a 54 alto. Selmer is going to release it around March 2003.

Trouble is, list price, retail and the cost from Europe have been widely different. The Ref tenors have gone down 20% on the high street since they came out, my guess would be the ref alto would be the same or slightly less cost than the ref tenor; perhaps 20% more than a Series III. I think they may have over-stocked on the ref tenors as they have been discounted heavily by retailers, but when the ref alto comes out there is likely to be a rush to buy and the price will stay up.

Do you know what body finish it will use? I hope not the same with tenor Ref 54, I don't like it.

I've heard the Reference 54 alto will be available in your choice of two finishes, the same finish as, or similar to the tenor Ref. 54 and the other finish, a regular lacquer that is supposed to be reminiscent of the earlier MKVI's.
